Yemeni Electricity Minister: Saudi support for electricity enhances stability

The Yemeni Minister of Electricity stressed the importance of Saudi support for the electricity sector through the provision of oil derivatives, pointing to its role in strengthening the economy and improving basic services in Yemen.

The Yemeni Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Maneh Bin Yamin, praised the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the stability and development of Yemen, stressing that the continuous Saudi support represents a lifeline for many vital sectors, most notably the electricity sector, which is the main artery of daily life and economic activity.

Strategic agreement to support the energy sector

The minister's remarks coincided with the signing of a new agreement for a Saudi oil derivatives grant allocated to power generation plants in the liberated Yemeni governorates. Bin Yamin explained that this agreement, signed with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, is not merely a temporary aid package, but a strategic step aimed at bringing about a real transformation in the level of services provided to citizens. He pointed out that the continued flow of fuel to the power plants ensures a sustainable electricity supply, which will have a positive impact on all aspects of life.

Economic and developmental dimensions of support

This agreement is particularly significant due to its innovative mechanism, which involves purchasing petroleum products from Yemen's national oil company, PetroMasila. This measure carries profound economic implications, as it contributes to strengthening the country's sovereign resources, alleviates pressure on foreign currency reserves, supports the stability of the Yemeni rial's exchange rate, and curbs inflation. The minister emphasized that this model of support saves the public treasury millions of dollars previously spent on fuel imports, enabling the government to redirect these resources to improve other services.

Electricity as a means to improve basic services

In a related context, the Minister of Electricity highlighted the close link between energy stability and the quality of public services. Electricity is the primary driver of the health, water, and education sectors. He explained that Saudi support ensures the continued operation of hospitals and health centers, as well as the running of water pumps, which directly impacts the lives of Yemeni citizens and alleviates their humanitarian suffering. He added that the Ministry is working according to a clear plan and directives from the Presidential Leadership Council to maximize the benefit from this support in implementing strategic projects that will revitalize the dilapidated infrastructure.

A continuing partnership to serve the Yemeni people

Bin Yamin commended the significant efforts undertaken by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, led by Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber, in implementing tangible development projects across various governorates. He expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, for their sincere and brotherly support, which has prevented the collapse of service and economic institutions during the most difficult circumstances Yemen has faced.

It is worth noting that the new agreement aims to operate more than 70 power stations distributed across various Yemeni governorates, reflecting the comprehensiveness of Saudi support and its keenness to reach all segments of Yemeni society to promote stability and comprehensive development.
