The Supreme Judicial Council held its periodic meeting at the Council’s headquarters, chaired by the Acting President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Sheikh Dr. Walid bin Mohammed Al-Samaani, and attended by Their Excellencies and Eminences, members of the Council, to discuss ways to develop the judicial system and to make a number of administrative and judicial decisions.
Ongoing leadership support and comprehensive development
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Waleed Al-Samaani expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister, for their generous support and continuous oversight of the judicial system, which has enabled it to achieve significant advancements in performance and quality. Al-Samaani welcomed the members, emphasizing the need to continue efforts to develop the judicial system in a way that enhances its efficiency and the quality of its outcomes, in line with the ambitious aspirations of the wise leadership.
Strategic decisions to enhance efficiency
During its session, the Council discussed several files and topics related to judicial affairs and reviewed in detail the recommendations prepared concerning them. These recommendations aim directly to raise the level of performance and improve the experience of those benefiting from judicial services. As part of strengthening human resources, the Council addressed several matters related to the professional affairs of judges, approving a package of promotions and appointments, in addition to naming a number of court presidents and their assistants in various regions of the Kingdom. These steps are intended to ensure the swift resolution of cases, enhance the objective quality of judgments, and address the needs of the courts to achieve effective justice.
Historical transformations in the Saudi judiciary
This meeting comes at a historic juncture for the Saudi judiciary, characterized by unprecedented legislative and structural reforms under the umbrella of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Recent years have witnessed the issuance of a suite of specialized legislation, such as the Civil Transactions Law, the Evidence Law, and the Personal Status Law, which have contributed to enhancing the predictability of judicial rulings and the stability of legal principles. The Council's work also coincides with the Ministry of Justice's massive digital transformation, which has made e-litigation a tangible reality, thus requiring the Supreme Judicial Council to keep pace with these developments through flexible and effective regulatory decisions.
The impact of decisions on the business environment and society
The decisions of the Supreme Judicial Council are of paramount importance, extending beyond procedural matters to positively impact the Kingdom's investment and social environment. Enhancing judicial efficiency and expediting dispute resolution is a cornerstone for attracting both foreign and domestic investment, as investors consistently seek a secure and transparent legal framework. On a social level, developing the judicial system contributes to safeguarding rights and fostering social stability, thereby increasing beneficiary satisfaction and bolstering confidence in the justice system. The Council continues to exercise its oversight responsibilities regarding the courts, judges, and their work, ensuring the ongoing development and institutional excellence.
