Saudi Arabia and Pakistan: Strategic defense agreement affirms the principle of collective deterrence

A strategic alliance between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan enhances security and economic cooperation; King Salman's visit to China opens new horizons for international cooperation.

A joint statement was issued following the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif , to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the kind invitation of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman . The visit, which took place on 25 Rabi' al-Awwal 1447 AH, corresponding to 17 September 2025, reaffirmed the strength of the historical and strategic relations between the two countries.

Official talks session

The Crown Prince received the Pakistani Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, where an official meeting was held attended by high-ranking officials from both sides. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, before the two sides reviewed the long-standing bilateral relations and issues of common interest, within the framework of a partnership described as one of the deepest in the Islamic world.

Strategic Defense Agreement

Based on the bonds of Islamic brotherhood and solidarity, and building upon long-standing defense cooperation, the two sides signed a Joint Strategic Defense . The agreement stipulates that any attack on either country is considered an attack on both , reflecting Riyadh and Islamabad's commitment to strengthening mutual deterrence and supporting regional and international stability.

The new agreement aims to develop defense cooperation in various fields and lay deeper foundations for security coordination, contributing to the protection of common interests and the promotion of peace in the region and the world.

Political and strategic implications

The signing of the agreement represents a continuation of historical relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan that span nearly eight decades. This development underscores the two countries' commitment to working together to address security challenges and strengthen their position as key pillars of the Islamic world.
