The Minister of Defense discusses relations and regional developments with the Emir of Qatar

Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with the Emir of Qatar in Doha, conveying greetings from the King and Crown Prince, and discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional developments.

Following the gracious directives of the wise leadership, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, arrived yesterday in the Qatari capital, Doha, where he met at the Amiri Diwan with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. This visit comes within the framework of strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and ongoing cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar, and reaffirms the depth of the historical relations that unite the two brotherly countries.

Conveying greetings from the Saudi leadership

The Minister of Defense began the meeting by conveying the greetings and appreciation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister, to their brother, the Emir of the State of Qatar. His Highness also conveyed the wishes of the Saudi leadership for continued progress, prosperity, and well-being for the government and people of Qatar. For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Minister of Defense, conveyed his greetings and deep appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, wishing the Kingdom and its people further growth and stability.

Dimensions of fraternal relations and common destiny

The meeting included a comprehensive review of the deep-rooted fraternal relations between the two countries, based on a shared historical legacy and profound social and cultural ties. The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly in defense and security, in order to serve their common interests and fulfill the aspirations of their brotherly peoples. These discussions are of particular importance given the ongoing efforts to align the visions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council, thereby strengthening the system of joint Gulf action.

Discussion of regional and international developments

In a related context, the two sides discussed current regional and international developments and the efforts being made to address them. The meeting addressed the importance of coordinating positions and unifying efforts to maintain security and stability in the region, particularly in light of the rapidly escalating challenges facing the Middle East. Both sides emphasized the need for joint action to de-escalate tensions and avert the risks of further escalation in the region, thereby safeguarding developmental gains and strengthening the prospects for peace.

High-level attendance

The meeting was attended on the Saudi side by His Excellency Hisham bin Abdulaziz Saif, Advisor to the Minister of Defense for Intelligence Affairs. On the Qatari side, the attendees included His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs; and His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Chief of the Amiri Diwan. This high-level attendance reflects the great importance both sides attach to developing bilateral relations and expanding them to broader horizons.
