The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, chaired the Cabinet meeting held today in the capital, Riyadh, where the Council reviewed the overall local and regional situation, and a number of important political and economic issues that reflect the Kingdom’s leading role in the region.
Diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability
At the beginning of the session, the Cabinet was briefed on the content of the telephone calls and intensive diplomatic activity led by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, which included discussions with leaders of brotherly and friendly countries. These calls included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
These talks come at a sensitive time for the region, and included a review of bilateral relations and ways to develop them, as well as discussions on the rapidly evolving events on the regional and international stages. This diplomatic activity reflects the political weight of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its constant commitment to coordinating positions with influential countries to ensure the region's security and spare it further tensions, especially in light of current geopolitical changes that require high-level cooperation and coordination.
Supporting political solutions in Yemen and the Southern issue
Regarding Yemen, the Council followed the latest developments, affirming the Kingdom's continued efforts to enhance the security and stability of the sisterly Republic of Yemen. The Council stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for constructive dialogue among all Yemeni parties to end the crisis.
In a move reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to supporting comprehensive solutions, the Cabinet reiterated its welcome of the request by the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, to hold a comprehensive conference in Riyadh that includes all southern factions. This strategic step aims to forge a shared vision for just solutions to the southern issue, fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the people of the south. This welcome is an extension of Riyadh's historical role as a haven for peace and a sponsor of agreements aimed at unifying the Yemeni ranks and rejecting division, thus contributing to advancing development and stability in Yemen and the region as a whole.
Regulating the mining sector and supporting the national economy
On the domestic and economic front, the Cabinet issued a decision approving the draft rules and procedures for the National Minerals Program. This decision comes within the framework of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which gives the mining sector paramount importance as the third pillar of national industry.
This new regulation is expected to contribute to attracting local and foreign investments to this vital sector, enhancing transparency and governance in work procedures, which supports efforts to diversify national income sources, reduce dependence on oil, and create new job opportunities for citizens in various regions of the Kingdom.
