In a humanitarian scene reflecting the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in charitable and medical work, and in implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the capital Riyadh received, within just 24 hours, three conjoined twins coming from the Republics of Tanzania and the Philippines.
The twins arrived and medical procedures began
King Khalid International Airport witnessed the arrival of Tanzanian twins Laytins and Lovens, Filipino twins Olivia and Gianna, and Tanzanian twins Nancy and Nais, accompanied by their families. Upon arrival, specialized medical teams immediately transferred them to King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital at the Ministry of National Guard. The medical team began conducting thorough clinical and laboratory examinations to study each case individually, assessing the health of the shared organs in order to make the appropriate medical decision regarding the possibility of surgical separation.
The Saudi Program for Separating Conjoined Twins: A Global Leadership
The acceptance of these cases is an extension of the Kingdom's long and distinguished history in the field of separating conjoined twins. The Saudi Program for Separating Conjoined Twins is one of the largest medical programs of its kind in the world. Since its inception in 1990, the program has reviewed hundreds of cases from dozens of countries worldwide and performed scores of successful surgeries, marking unprecedented medical achievements. This has made the Kingdom a global destination and a safe haven for families suffering from these complex medical conditions, regardless of race, religion, or nationality.
Human dimensions and an ambitious vision
Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and Head of the Medical Team, affirmed that these successive initiatives embody the deeply rooted humanitarian values embraced by the Kingdom, which have become a hallmark of the “Kingdom of Humanity.” He pointed out that this unlimited support from the wise leadership reflects the significant development witnessed by the Saudi health sector, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on quality of life and health services, and on strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a leading soft power in international humanitarian work.
Gratitude and appreciation from the twins' families
For their part, the parents of the triplets from Tanzania and the Philippines expressed their deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its government and people, for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. They appreciated the swift response to the Saudi leadership's directives to accept their children, praising the exceptional level of medical care and attention they received from the moment they arrived in the Kingdom, which renewed their hope for a normal and independent life for their children.
