In a strategic move aimed at institutionalizing charitable work and organizing relief efforts, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, launched the electronic portal dedicated to Saudi non-profit organizations. This took place during a ceremony held at the Center's headquarters in Riyadh, with a notable attendance of representatives from humanitarian associations and organizations, as well as leaders in the Kingdom's charitable sector.
A humanitarian beacon with a global vision
In his address, Dr. Al-Rabeeah emphasized that the center's establishment was a generous initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, making it the humanitarian arm of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also noted the diligent follow-up by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which enabled the center to fulfill its noble mission. He explained that the center is no longer merely a donor organization, but has become a global humanitarian beacon and a living testament to Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in shaping the future of international humanitarian work and directing efforts toward the most vulnerable populations worldwide.
A record full of achievements and statistics
The Director General presented a statistical overview of the center's humanitarian efforts, highlighting its reach across 109 countries worldwide. More than 4,000 relief and development projects have been implemented at a total cost exceeding US$8.276 billion. These substantial figures translate into tangible results: lives saved during critical disasters, safe havens for refugee families, and the restoration of fragile communities to their former strength and resilience.
In the context of volunteer work, Al-Rabeeah pointed to the implementation of 1,200 volunteer projects with a value exceeding $147 million, reflecting the spirit of giving and generosity inherent in Saudi society.
Empowering the non-profit sector
The new online portal serves as an advanced technological tool to enhance partnerships with the third sector, with Al-Rabeeah inviting organizations to join this promising platform. In its initial phase, the platform successfully screened and evaluated 50 local non-profit organizations, which in turn implemented 229 relief projects and programs. These partnerships have also contributed to 50,855 surgical procedures in more than 20 countries, at a cost exceeding 115 million Saudi riyals, demonstrating the efficiency of national associations and their capacity to operate internationally.
Humanitarian work is a cornerstone of Saudi diplomacy
For his part, Dr. Salman Al-Mutairi, Secretary-General of the Enaya Charitable Health Association for Patient Care, delivered a speech on behalf of non-profit organizations, praising the unlimited support from the wise leadership, which has made humanitarian work a fundamental pillar of soft power and the Kingdom's influential presence in international forums. He expressed his gratitude to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for its efforts in governing humanitarian work, developing its pathways, and enhancing the readiness of national associations to meet international standards, thus strengthening the credibility and sustainability of Saudi charitable work.
This humanitarian initiative is consistent with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which places great importance on developing the non-profit sector and increasing its contribution to the gross domestic product, and promoting the values of volunteering, in order to present an honorable image of the Islamic and humanitarian solidarity that the Kingdom adopts as an approach and practice.
